Cannarado Genetics Description

Wedding Pie is a popular hybrid strain bred in Colorado by a highly-revered grower and breeder. After becoming a commercial success in California, Wedding Pie has gone on to win over the hearts of almost anyone lucky enough to savour her sweet, cakey smoke. Keep reading to learn all there is to know about the Wedding Pie cannabis strain.

History of The Wedding Pie Strain

Wedding Pie was created by Cannarado Genetics—a highly respected breeder and genetics brand from Colorado, USA. Having started growing and breeding cannabis in 1998, Cannarado Genetics considers himself (it’s one person) somewhere between old-school and nu-school breeders. While he is a Colorado local and known to work with elite Colorado strains (as well as a handful of clone-only cuts from around the globe), Cannarado Genetics actually made his big break in California. Like a lot of Cannarado's strains (such as Sundae Driver, for example), Wedding Pie gained a lot of popularity after it was commercialized by Jungle Boyz.

Genetic Lineage of Wedding Pie

As its name suggests, Wedding Pie is the culmination of Wedding Cake and Grape Pie strains. Below we'll take a closer look at these strains and how they impacted the traits of Wedding Pie.

Wedding Cake is a classic strain bred by Seed Junky Genetics, a brand led by grower and breeder JBeezy (AKA Anthony Hart). Slightly indica-dominant, Wedding Cake is rumored to be derived from Triangle Kush and Animal Mints or Cherry Pie and GSC. Regardless of its exact genetics, the Wedding Cake strain is beloved by smokers and medical patients everywhere for its pungent aromas, full-bodied flavour, and happy, sleepy stone. Its buds are thick and chunky and often bright green in colour, though some phenos produce flowers with stunning shades of purple.

Grape Pie, Wedding Pie's second parent, is a flagship creation by Cannarado Genetics. A cross of Cherry Pie and Grape Stomper, Grape Pie is an indica-dominant hybrid with a delicious aroma of sweet grapes, underlined with notes of sour fuel. Similar to Wedding Cake, Grape Pie produces dense nuggets with bulging green calyxes and a frosty coating of resin and, sometimes, eye-catching purple highlights. Characteristic of heavy indicas, Grape Pie lifts you up with an initial burst of euphoria, before laying you down in a lazy, happy, and hungry daze.

True to its predecessors, Wedding Pie produces dense, indica nuggets with tight stacks of calyxes that have a high tendency to turn dark purple in the right conditions. Its aroma, as described below, neatly combines layers of sweet grapes and berries with aromas of freshly baked and glazed desserts.

Physical Characteristics of Wedding Pie

Cannarado Genetics specialized in creating feminized seeds, and Wedding Pie was likely made available in seed form (though some growers also report cultivating it from clone). Based on reports and photos from growers, Wedding Pie plants are vigorous and compact. They develop dark green leaves of a moderate shape and size, characteristic of a lot of modern hybrids. Wedding Pie plants also boast moderate internodal spacing, and seem to reach pretty standard heights if kept in small pots and vegged for 4–5 weeks. When grown in large bodies of soil and vegged for longer, Wedding Pie plants likely grow much taller.

Once in bloom, Wedding Pie plants seem to stretch considerably and grow beautiful elongated leaves that form a thick, luscious canopy. They also produce thick flowers that are vibrant green in colour, though depending on the phenotype and the temperatures in your garden/tent, some Wedding Pie plants may also turn purple.

Properties/Effects of Wedding Pie

Wedding Pie is a high-potency strain that produces around 25–30% THC, depending on the batch. Its sticky resin is also typically rich in caryophyllene, limonene, and linalool (among other terpenes) which combine to give the strain its dank smell. As its name suggests, Wedding Pie has a sweet aroma reminiscent of sugary cake and buttery pie, with upfront notes of glazed cherries, berries, and other fruits. Like other dessert strains, Wedding Pie is renowned for its thick, creamy, and full-bodied smoke that coats the palate with its sweetness.

Given its high concentration of terpenes and cannabinoids, it comes as little surprise that Wedding Pie produces a very strong high that experienced users love. While some users report feeling a head rush as soon as they inhale this THC powerhouse, most label the strain as a creeper. After a few hits, even experienced users report putting down their joint or bong as they settle into Wedding Pie's warm, tingly, body buzz. As its effects progress, you can expect to feel completely relaxed, happy, and probably a little sleepy. Even experienced users report that this strain can leave them glued to the couch, so we definitely don't recommend it for daytime use. If you're new to cannabis, take care when smoking this strain as its effects may prove overwhelming.

Uses of Wedding Pie

Wedding Pie is a strong strain, packed with THC and terpenes. Thanks to its relaxing physical stone, lots of recreational smokers love this strain for when they want to relax (especially smokers with a high tolerance). Based on user reports, recreational cannabis smokers recommend Wedding Pie:

• For quiet weeknights

• After work or hard workouts

• As a natural nightcap

• While watching TV or movies

• While relaxing in the bath

• Before napping

• Lazy Sunday sessions

Given its strong physical effects, it comes as no surprise that Wedding Pie is also popular among medical patients. In fact, medical marijuana patients recommend this strain for:

• Physical pain

• Stress

• Anxiety

• Depression

• Insomnia

• Appetite loss

• Mood disorders

Given its potency, Wedding Pie isn't usually recommended for rookie smokers or those with a low tolerance, as its intense effects may be overwhelming. In fact, Wedding Pie can create negative side effects in some people, including:

• Anxiety

• Paranoia

• Dry eyes and mouth

Cultivation/Production of Wedding Pie

Wedding Pie looks to be a hardy strain that grows extremely well indoors and outside. Its natural indica structure is relatively stocky and bushy with moderate internodal spacing which makes handling these plants fairly simple. Thanks to its hardy and bushy growth, Wedding Pie lends itself very well to a variety of training techniques, including LST, super cropping, ScrOG, and Topping/FIMing. As they bloom, Wedding Pie plants can get very luscious, meaning it is generally a good idea to use pruning and defoliation to promote light penetration to all parts of the plant.

Based on reports from growers, Wedding Pie can be ready to harvest after roughly 8 weeks of bloom. At this point, its branches and central stem will be heavy with thick, reeking nuggets. Cool temperatures can encourage Wedding Pie plants to take on stunning autumn colours and dark purple, almost black hues.
