Unknown or Legendary Description

Thanks to its tasty flavors and moderate THC levels, Grape Pie appeals to cannabis users new and old. As a further homage to its name, it's not uncommon for dried and cured buds to resemble Pinot Noir grapes. Whether you're growing for the taste or the visual appeal, below is a breakdown of what you need to know about this indica-leaning hybrid.

History of the Grape Pie Strain

Picking up traction in Colorado, thanks to the work of Cannarado Genetics, Grape Pie blends the beloved qualities of Cherry Pie and Grape Stomper to deliver a fruity, moreish smoking experience and respectable levels of THC. However, it also looks the part, resembling the fruit it's named after, thanks to the deep purple hues of the dense and compact flowers.

Cannarado Genetics has been hard at work since the team got hold of their first cannabis seeds in 1998. Fast forward to today, and they've built a diverse catalog of strains, focusing on "elite Colorado cannabis strains and clone only elites from around the globe".

Their hard work has certainly paid off, not just because of Grape Pie, but thanks to other leading cultivars as well, including Gushers, London Pound Cake, and Garanimals. In fact, Grape Pie has inspired an entire line of strains, with Cannarado Genetics expanding on the original's intense berry flavors.

Unfortunately, home growers will struggle to get hold of clones, given that most examples are only available in dispensaries located in Colorado such as Kind Love, Jungle Boys, and Green Dot Labs. Despite the strain's elusive nature, its popularity continues to grow. Hopefully, it's only a matter of when, not if, this strain makes its way into the hands of the wider cannabis community.

Genetic Lineage of Grape Pie

Even though Grape Pie has spawned various offspring, none would have been possible without the strain's proud parents—Cherry Pie and Grape Stomper.

Also known as Cherry Kush, Cherry Pie is an indica-leaning hybrid that packs a potent punch courtesy of its impressive THC levels (up to 26%) and predominantly head-focused high. The sensation is said to build slowly but surely, eventually reaching the furthest recesses of your mind. Fortunately, Cherry Pie (including breeder-specific variations) seeds and buds are widely available online and from dispensaries worldwide.

Next up is Grape Stomper, a pedigree hybrid bred by Gage Green Seeds. Its premium status is chiefly due to the strain's eclectic lineage. She features two "craft" strains as parents: JojoRizo's Purple Elephant and Elite Seeds' Chemdawg Sour Diesel. This pairing culminates in a strain with a mostly head-focused high and a fruity aroma reminiscent of grape candy. Interestingly, her THC levels are relatively mild by current industry standards (only 16–22%). Still, Grape Stomper has gained a steady following among users looking to savor its unique flavor and cerebral effects.

Physical Characteristics of Grape Pie

While most people know Grape Pie for its distinct grape, pepper, and berry aromas, the strain's visual appearance is no less impressive. Buds appear tight and compact, with a very generous layer of resin. Under closer inspection, you'll notice deep purple and violet hues, and once trimmed, flowers are remarkably reminiscent of the fruit the strain is named after. Pistil coverage is minimal, which only adds to their smooth, grape-like appearance.

As for overall plant structure, information is limited, as most dispensaries only carry flowers, and clone availability is scarce. However, given Grape Pie's parents and its slight indica dominance, it's likely that plants will develop a short, bushy structure and exhibit average flowering times. Also, both of its parents are suited to indoor and outdoor cultivation, meaning Grape Pie should possess the same versatility.

Properties and Effects of Grape Pie

The flavor of Grape Pie is usually enough to entice growers, but it offers much more than just distinct berry tastes. Interestingly, her effects are typically experienced in two halves—the first characterized by waves of uplifting euphoria, and the second offering a heavy body stone that radiates from head to toe. First-time users should be cautious of the second half of the high, especially if their buds reach above 20% THC. While the euphoria and creative influence feel great initially, it doesn't take long for the switch to hit, resulting in lethargy and sluggishness.

This indica-style crash is both a blessing and a curse. Provided you're prepared for it, it's the ideal way to relax after a long day at work or a heavy session at the gym. The soothing sensation is partly thanks to the strain's diverse blend of terpenes. Contained within her tightly packed flowers is an abundance of limonene, alongside myrcene and linalool.

All three of these terpenes have been found to exert a soothing influence on the mind and body. In higher concentrations, they may even help with several mood-related disorders. The strain's two-part nature also makes it suitable for therapeutic cannabis users, especially those who favor moderate-strength cultivars. Rather than becoming overwhelmed by anxiety, headaches, and dry eyes, users can focus on the strain's physically calming properties.

Uses of Grape Pie

As outlined above, the possible uses of Grape Pie are extensive. Recreational users enjoy the balanced blend of euphoria and relaxation, allowing them to get stuff done before sinking into the sofa and binging Netflix. Other possible uses of Grape Pie include:

• Getting motivated for household chores

• Encouraging creativity

• Calming the body after periods of intense physical activity

• Helping you to relax after a long day at work

And it's not just recreational users that can benefit from Grape Pie. Medicinal marijuana patients have reported trying the strain to help with:

• Mood-related disorders

• Sleep issues

• Physical discomfort

It's also important not to overlook the strain's strong resin production. Not only does this make it a viable candidate for crafting traditional hand-rolled hash, but with the correct equipment, you can create potent and flavorsome concentrates such as rosin hash.

Cultivation and Production of Grape Pie

Specific cultivation advice for Grape Pie is hard to come by. Outside of the Grape Pie-inspired line from Cannarado Genetics, the availability of clones is scarce. Several dispensaries sell Grape Pie flower, but unfortunately, this doesn't help home growers. That said, given that it's likely to grow short and bushy, plants should be relatively easy to manage. You may also want to start training branches early to ensure an even and uniform canopy. Some growers might even consider main-lining to help plants develop several tightly packed colas.

Grape Pie: A Taste Sensation That's Hard to Track Down

Reminiscent of the very fruit it's named after, Grape Pie flowers are a treat for the eyes, nose, and mouth. While it may be the strong grape, pepper, and berry aroma that hits you first, it's the two-part high and moderate THC levels that keep people coming back. Its versatile effects appeal to both recreational and medicinal cannabis users, bolstering its reputation among the wider community.

Perhaps the biggest downside to Grape Pie is the lack of seeds and clones. Not only does this limit the availability of cultivation knowledge, but it also prevents growers from pushing the strain's resin and yield potential to its limit. If you're lucky enough to live in Colorado, then flowers are readily available from a handful of dispensaries. For growers and users elsewhere, perhaps focus on Grape Pie's progeny rather than the original. Regardless, the sweetness of Grape Pie is sure to shine through.
