Skunk is a classic cannabis strain beloved for being easy to grow, potent, and very aromatic. White Skunk stays true to everything Skunk strains are known for while bringing some fruity aromas and flavors to the mix. Keep reading to learn all there is to know about White Skunk, including its origins, genetics, growth traits, and more.
White Skunk is an indica-dominant hybrid created by Sensi Seeds. Founded in 1985 by Ben Dronkers (who also founded Amsterdam's Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum), Sensi Seeds is currently the world's largest producer of cannabis seeds, carrying over 500 strains. Dronkers opened the first brick-and-mortar Sensi Seeds shop in 1986, selling seeds, grow equipment, and books about cannabis cultivation and culture.
Although cannabis coffeeshops already existed in Amsterdam and other Dutch cities since the 1970s, the Dutch weren't particularly fond of cannabis—dry flower, that is. Instead, they preferred to smoke imported hash. However, by growing his own cannabis in greenhouses, Dronkers helped to slowly introduce weed-loving Hollanders to cannabis in its most natural form. Moreover, Dronkers helped to preserve cannabis genetics as well as create a wide variety of new hybrids.
White Skunk is a 65% indica-dominant Skunk variety. While its exact lineage and origins aren't known (a common thread among old-school strains), the original Skunk strain is believed to be the work of Sam the Skunkman, a US breeder who, according to folklore, created the strain from a mix of Colombian Gold, Acapulco Gold, and Afghani landrace strains. Rumor has it that Sam brought his famous Skunk to Amsterdam in 1983, from where it spread across the world thanks to its distinct aroma and effects.
White Skunk by Sensi Seeds is said to descend from traditional Skunk lines, preserving the sour, funky aroma that this family of strains is known for, as well as its robust growth traits.
White Skunk plants are bushy and bright green with large fan leaves, moderately spaced nodes, and few lateral branches. The strain is known to stretch considerably in bloom but is generally easy to grow. It produces long, dense flowers that can easily reach the size of a soda can. Its buds are deep green, with tightly stacked calyxes, few pistils, and abundant resin coverage. The strain gets its name from its thick, white covering of trichomes.
White Skunk is a potent cannabis variety that packs a lot of THC and terpenes. On average, White Skunk contains around 20% THC and high concentrations of myrcene, caryophyllene, and limonene. Together, these terpenes create a complex aroma offering notes of musky earth, wood, cinnamon, pine, and citrus. Crack open a bag or jar of White Skunk and it will immediately stink up the entire room with its dank earthy notes and sweet citrus overtones. Close your eyes, and you'll feel as if you're walking through a damp pine forest carrying bags of ripe oranges and lemons.
Light her up and White Skunk makes for a very delicious smoke, dousing the palate with notes of earth, fresh citrus, pine, and skunk. Trained connoisseurs may also pick up on the strain's unique hints of citrus liqueur, reminiscent of limoncello or Cointreau.
After inhaling her sweet smoke/vapor, White Skunk delivers a well-balanced effect that activates the mind while deeply relaxing the body. The strain's cerebral buzz tends to hit first, elevating the mood and providing a rush of energy that's ideal for social settings, creative endeavors, or outdoor adventures. As her effects grow, however, you'll notice a creeping body high start to relax every muscle in your body, leaving you feeling soothed but not necessarily tired. Finally, as White Skunk's effects wear off, you'll be left in a happy, lazy daze that'll have you yearning for bed or the couch.
White Skunk appeals to a variety of users. Its effects are well-balanced and, in small doses, very manageable, making it a great choice for rookie smokers still familiarizing themselves with cannabis. At the same time, White Skunk's fragrant aromas and high potency leave more experienced smokers just as satisfied. In moderate to high doses, this strain can pack a strong, long-lasting punch that even veteran users will enjoy. Plus, its mix of old-school funky Skunk aromas and brighter fruit overtones make for a very delicious smoking/vaping experience.
Based on user reports, White Skunk is a great strain for:
• Working from home
• Doing housework or chores
• Lazy Sundays or staycations
• Leisurely walks or bike rides
• Meditating
• Nighttime relaxation
White Skunk is generally a well-tolerated strain when consumed in moderation. As with all THC-rich cannabis, however, it can cause some unwanted side effects, which may include:
• Dizziness
• Headaches
• Dry mouth and eyes
Note that, in high doses, White Skunk may cause couch-lock or sedation, though this may vary from one user to another.
White Skunk seeds are readily available from White Label, Sensi Seeds' sister seed bank. In general, these seeds give rise to short, compact plants with a hybrid structure. White Skunk retains the moderate height characteristic of indica hybrids while also preserving some sativa traits, such as reduced side branching and a slightly airier bud structure. Sensi Seeds reports that White Skunk lends itself well to SOG setups, though she also handles training with ease and performs well in ScrOG. Other growing techniques, such as topping, LST, FIM, or lollipopping, may also work well on this hardy strain.
Like other Skunk strains, White Skunk stands out for being super easy to cultivate. Thanks to its vigor and hardy genetics, this strain can easily be left to its own devices, and it performs well indoors and outdoors (note that White Sunk plants grown outdoors in the ground are known to grow very tall). While Sensi Seeds doesn't specify the exact flowering time for this strain, growers report that White Skunk plants are usually harvest-ready after 8 weeks of bloom indoors and produce very respectable yields.
White Skunk was bred by Sensi Seeds from traditional Skunk genetics. The result is a hardy plant that's suitable for both novice and experienced growers. Being slightly indica dominant, White Skunk produces flowers with a hybrid structure, large calyxes, and a frosty-white coating of trichomes. Packing around 20% THC and a mix of exotic terpenes, this strain is exceptionally fragrant and potent. White Skunk's effects are well-balanced, producing an initial cerebral euphoria followed by a relaxing body stone. In moderation, this is a great strain for beginner users, while veteran smokers enjoy White Skunk's heavier effects when taken in larger doses.
