The idea behind this complicated poly-hybrid was to bring all that is special about the Kalamata Red pure Landrace but with a modern twist; presented in a way that a whole new generation of growers will appreciate.

The result is a version of the original Greek wonder that is far, far in excess of what you would expect for a plant of such sativa standing. Almost 95% sativa is everything you want in terms of its effect but its quick start, explosive flowering, superb yields and extremely high flower quality will just blow you away.

This is due to the extreme dominance of the NL5/Haze despite having been outcrossed several generations and now only representing a small fraction of the total genetic mix of this plant, Nevil’s amazing hybrid still brings everything you would expect to the table in terms of physicality and finished product. The Nevil’s Haze used in this plant was selected in the early nineties by Nevil himself – it is an original F1 Nevil gem.

The well worked F7 Panama brings with it superb terpenes and amazing flower quality as well as a very generous yield of pure American sativa. Together the pair provide very pungent sativa plants with heavy yields of powerful, sticky, compact cannabis, with aromas of lemon, pepper, cream, hazey spices, soap and sweetness – like chewing gum or syrup.

It is from these plants that the mother of the Nevil’s Kalamata was chosen. She was nicknamed “The Stench” and that tells you everything you need to know about the selection criteria! Her effects are first class. Euphoric, clear, crazy, other-worldly and great fun. Very potent stuff.

On the other side the Kalamata Red offers an old-world, pure landrace experience that we think is amongst the best in the Middle East or Mediterranean region. A pure sativa hash plant with mouth watering terpenes. We found Lemon, mountain herbs, hashish, orange juice and sweet lime aromas in the different phenotypes, which ranged from a languid, tall haze-like plant with a great orangey aroma and clear glue-like resin to a very stocky and quick flowering hash-plant style sativa with an amazing lemon/herby/hash aroma and a taste exactly like top quality Middle-Eastern pressed hash (the fluffy yellow type).

All the Kalamata plants offered a clear and euphoric experience of the highest order. The best males have been used to pair with that Stinky Nevil’s Haze/Panama aroma-bomb. Superb vigour and frames which would hold a fair sack of dense weed. All the plants which didn’t stink were then discounted, leaving the winners. This combination of well worked modern sativas with pure landrace lines always produces very interesting results and with both the mother and father lines being of such a high standard in aromatic terpenes, you are sure to find something you really like.

The end product, the Nevil’s Kalamata, is far, far quicker to flower than the original landrace. The stretch and vigour are the same but for far less time, so you end up with a large but well manageable plant. A basic pruning skillset will be enough to fit her into your garden. The aromas are pungent, complex, sweet and fruity. The flavours of the finished product will depend on many factors but if you are lucky you will find something with that hash flavour alongside the creamy, sweet and lemony aromas of The Stench.

Both lines also offered quick extraordinary levels of resins, with the Kalamata Red side being clearer, larger and more glue-like, as would befit its hash-plant origins. You will find plants that have resin covering stems, branches, petioles (and everything in between) from a very early stage of the flowering process.

Breeder’s Notes: If you have ever grown any haze hybrids you will have found that a small number – maybe 5-10% – are outstanding keeper’s of the highest quality and maybe the same again are just not what you want. The remaining plants will be of a very high standard and will be worthwhile to grow but be discerning in your selection – if you start with enough plants you can find real gems with wonderful aromas and flower qualities. On the other side, this is a complex polyhybrid – the outcomes are far less predictable than with a straight F1 or pure landrace. It would be hard to imagine using this plant as a breeding tool or taking it any further. It’s more to find that perfect clone mother. Expect tamer sativas with top quality final products but some selection will be required and outcomes are less predictable. The possibilities are for real fire but you’ll need to search a bit.
