Moon Grown Preservations Description

Originally release through Satori Seed Selections and I changed the name to Moon Grown Preservations.

Marine Layer is a pure sativa hybrid variety composed of a 1962 Hanoi, Vietnam x 1962 Guadalajara, Mexico. It is sexually stable and adapted to the coast, offering strong resistance to Alternaria/Septoria, Powdery Mildew and Botrytis

  • Lineage & Stability: The original cross was made in 1962, when Uncle brought back seeds from the war, and chose an indigenous plant from a ridge just north of Guadalajara, Mexico. It was grown each year and developed as an IBL in Mexico until 1996, then moving to Weed, California, and finally up the Northern Humboldt coast where seven years was spent selecting for sexual stability and mold resistance.
  • Growth Pattern: Pure sativa growth with robust, long internodes; some phenos exhibit spiral growth, and a rare purple-menthol phenotype can appear.
  • Aroma & Flavor Spectrum: Mexican-leaning phenos tend toward a gassy burn, while Vietnamese-leaning ones deliver a complex floral hazy bouquet; occasional purple-menthol notes add a cool, refreshing finish.
  • Leaf Morphology: Notably thin leaves that promote airflow and light penetration, aiding canopy management in outdoor environments.
  • Pest & Environmental Resilience: Excellent resistance to slugs and mites, deer don’t seem to touch them and they thrive having showers, so late season harvest are a breeze.
  • Harvest Timing: Most phenos finish post-October; first confirmed harvests occurred in 2025 during the late November to early December window, aligned with new moon late November and full moon early December.
  • Ideal Growing Conditions: Best suited to outdoor coastal climates, with a preference for mild, foggy environments like Northern Humboldt; long seasons support the sativa-dominant finish. However they have been grown to great success in drier climates, it is just advised to keep the beds moist and give them daily showers, drenching them, especially during veg. One can back off as the flowers develop.
  • Phenotype Diversity: A spectrum from gassy, Mexican-leaning profiles to floral, Vietnamese-dominant hazy bouquets, with occasional purple-menthol expressions for variety in flavor and aroma.

Marine Layer offers a distinctive, sativa-forward experience with a rich aroma profile and practical cultivation advantages. Its stable genetics reduce hermaphroditism risk, while coastal-adapted traits and thin leaves simplify training and maintenance in outdoor setups.

The plant’s resilience to slug and mite pressure, along with robust outdoor performance, makes Marine Layer a compelling choice for coastal gardens and seasoned cultivators seeking a unique, harvest-ready sativa with a reliable late-fall window, offering the chance for multiple harvests and perennial growth if harvested correctly.

Reminders from the breeder:

They love to be wet.

They love to be Low Stress Trained (tied down, not topped).

They are moderate feeders, and it’s highly recommended to grow according to Korean Natural Farming principles.

There is the possibility for multiple harvests.

If you harvest correctly by leaving cutting down the plant until you have 3-5 nodes on each plant, leave the leaves on the branches, and only water after harvest when you first notice signs of new growth, you can absolutely naturally lets these plants regrow and start living perennially.
