Swamp Boys Seeds Description

Not only does Layer Cake produce huge levels of THC, but her buds are packed with compounds that give off unusual smells and tastes of garlic, making for a pretty unusual smoke. Find out exactly how Swamp Boy Seeds created this variety below.

Strain History Of Layer Cake

Layer Cake derives from a breeding project carried out by Swamp Boy Seeds. This Florida-based seed bank emerged in 2005 when skilled breeders Cornbread Ricky and Krome joined forces to create legendary cannabis cultivars including The White and Triangle Kush.

Committed to innovation in the field of breeding, and the relief of medical marijuana users, the two continue to churn out high-quality strains with impressive phytochemical profiles. By harnessing four potent and terpene-loaded parent strains, Swamp Boy Seeds created Layer Cake over a long, precise breeding project. The cultivar has recently risen to prominence after winning a couple of prestigious awards. She scooped up first place in the Best Overall Caregiver Flower category and the Best Hybrid category in the Connoisseur Cup in 2021.

Genetic Lineage Of Layer Cake

Swamp Boy Seeds had potency and flavour in mind while crafting Layer Cake. To ensure these traits emerged in the progeny, they had to carefully select which parent strains to include in the process. Check out the four cultivars that breeders used in order to achieve their desired outcome:

• Wedding Cake: This strain has a long list of monikers, including Triangle Mints #23 and Pink Cookies. Breeders at Junky Genetics created this variety by crossing popular parent strains Triangle Kush and Animal Mints. This pairing gave rise to an indica-dominant hybrid possessing 60% indica genetic and 40% sativa. Wedding Cake has become particularly popular in North America and won Leafly Strain of the Year in 2019. Her hefty THC content of 25% drives a euphoric and relaxing high, while a small but noticeable CBG content contributes a clear-headed and cognitive effect.

• GMO: Also known as GMO Garlic Cookies and Garlic Cookies, this strain serves up a strange yet pleasant taste and aroma. As the progeny of Girl Scout Cookies and Chemdawg, this variety possesses an indica-dominant genetic profile. She produces small and compact buds with a THC content as high as 28%. It only takes a couple of hits to feel her deeply stoning and euphoric high take hold. GMO also features an array of phytochemicals that set her apart from most other strains. High levels of volatile sulphur compounds give this variety a pungent taste of garlic, diesel, and skunk, making it popular among smokers looking for something a little different. Many of these notes show up in Layer Cake.

• Triangle Kush: Swamp Boy Seeds used one of their very own varieties in the creation of Layer Cake: Triangle Kush. Deriving partly from OG Kush, this indica-dominant cultivar features a THC content of 20% and plenty of stoning terpenes, including myrcene. Overall, her phytochemical contents converge to exert a soothing physical high that many medical marijuana users employ for symptomatic relief. The strain's skunky and pungent aromatic profile shares similarities to that of GMO.

• Skunk: Finally, Swamp Boys Seeds decided to introduce Skunk into the mix when creating Layer Cake. While lower in THC than the rest of the line-up, this variety passed down good productivity, an energising terpene profile, and even more notes of skunk and earthiness.

Physical Characteristics Of Layer Cake

Both indica and sativa traits show up in Layer Cake’s morphology. Overall, she leans towards the bushier side of things. She features a thick and sturdy main stem, robust branches, and short internodes. However, her sativa side shows in her relatively small fan leaves that possess thinner leaflets than pure indica varieties. When it comes to flower structure, Layer Cake produces small and dense buds that are nugget-like in appearance following trimming. While small, they boast high trichome density and a thick layer of viscous resin.

This strain remains dark green throughout most of the growing cycle. However, certain environmental factors, such as cooler nighttime temperatures, can increase anthocyanin levels and cause plants to take on purple hues towards the end of the flowering phase.

Properties/Effects Of Layer Cake

With a THC content of 24%, Layer Cake makes its effects known quickly. Within minutes of hitting a joint or bong loaded with these flowers, you’ll feel a relaxing high sweep across your body, while a sense of clarity and euphoria captures your mind. It goes without saying that these buds aren’t best suited for daytime use. Reserve them for the evenings for maximum pleasure, when you have time to enjoy melting without any responsibilities to take care of.

Uses Of Layer Cake

Apart from her recreational effects, Layer Cake also offers value to medical marijuana users. While the uses mentioned below aren’t verified by science, first-hand accounts testify that Layer Cake can help in these areas:

• Sleep: The high amounts of THC and myrcene found in these flowers could help some users hit the hay a little harder. These molecules produce a particularly stoning property when used together.

• Anxiety: THC helps to temporarily boost dopamine levels in the brain, and Layer Cake possesses a whole lot of it. Hitting a joint may have what it takes to help feelings of nervousness subside and make users feel more mentally comfortable. However, this amount of THC can produce the opposite effect in some users.

• Depression: The dopamine-tinkering effect of THC might also come in handy when it comes to cases of low mood and ruminating thoughts. But once again, other users find it has the exact opposite effect.

Cultivation/Production Of Layer Cake

Layer Cake grows to only a medium height both indoors and outdoors, making her suitable for cultivators with little space to spare. Topping and training this variety, using either the LST or mainline methods, will keep her even lower to the ground without compromising productivity.

Whether you’re growing Layer Cake in a grow tent or directly in the ground outdoors, the strain benefits from a well-draining growing medium rich in organic matter; well-rotted manure, compost, and worm castings all provide enough microbes and nutrients to help this cultivar get off to the best start.

Defoliate well during the late vegetative phase to expose bud sites to adequate levels of light. Continue to remove older and yellow leaves during the flowering stage to keep the canopy aerated and mould-free.

Layer Cake — Unusual aromas and loads of THC

Layer Cake pulls no punches when it comes to potency. Swamps Boys Seeds harnessed four powerful parent strains to bring this variety to life—and it shows. She produces small but sticky buds, huge levels of THC, and good yields, without demanding too much space. On top of these benefits, this cultivar also offers rare and unusual aromas of skunk, diesel, and garlic.
