Kalimpong is defined by a subtropical highland climate, closely resembling a monsoon-influenced temperate oceanic environment. The region experiences abundant rainfall during the warmer months, with temperatures rarely exceeding 30°C, while the colder months remain comparatively dry and cool, typically without snowfall.

Within farmed populations, the plants grow exceptionally large and develop a strong, resilient structure capable of supporting massive yields. This natural robustness allows the crop to withstand seasonal winds with minimal damage, aside from the occasional broken branch.

Although the buds show a less-than-ideal leaf-to-bract ratio, they compensate with a powerful aromatic profile, dominated by pungent floral notes and sharp lemongrass undertones. Flowering usually begins in mid-August and continues through December, with a long flowering cycle of approximately 16+ weeks. Color expression is generally limited, appearing only in select plants from wild or undomesticated populations.
