Basic infos

ICE is an indica / sativa from Female Seeds and can be cultivated indoors and outdoors (Where the plants will need a flowering time of ±60 days) Female Seeds's ICE is only available as feminized seeds.

Female Seeds Description

The ICE® cannabis strain is a selected phenotype from a Skunk Special x White Widow hybrid that was then crossbred with a Blueberry to improve the taste. She was selected out of 500 females, because of her amazing yield, resin production, taste and smell. Years of backcrossing and cubing were spent to stabilize this cross before we had the perfect phenotype. Ice was first introduced as a regular strain through another seedbank Ferry used to breed seeds for. In 2003 at the start of Female Seeds he launched the Ice as a female strain.

Ice is short and has a stocky build. You will find huge, tight buds covered in frosty, snow-white tricomes. This bud structure stems from its Skunk Special origins. The Ice has the potency of its White Widow ancestral roots. Ice was bred primarily for indoor growing, but can also be easily grown outdoors in a Mediterranean climate, as she is a very heat resistant cannabis strain.

The highest THC-levels were measured in the High Times Cup of 1998, showing a THC content of 22%. The smell and taste is strong and intense; earthy, diesel and fuel with a hint of licorice. The high is very balanced with a hard indica body stone effect and an activating Sativa head high.

ICE User comments

Altogether we've collected 9 about Female Seeds.
Have grown ICE (female seeds) two seasons in a row (so yes would and did grow again) but in different climates. In Alpine Europe, this strain does well outdoors if the weather is generally warm and dry. I accelerated flowering by brining the plants indoors into a light tight darkroom at night for 12 or more hours, and harvested in mid-September 2017.

If left to flower outdoors at night (no dark room), early to mid-October would be a likely harvest date.

This year 2018 I grew ICE in California's Central Valley and harvested on October 11. I grew two plants on a western-facing balcony, a semi-guerilla setup. I topped one and let the other grow untrained. The topped one produced more bud than the untopped. The untopped got some shade from the intense sun during the hottest part of the day, and ripened more slowly with mostly clear/milky trichomes. The topped plant stood in the hot sun a bit longer and produced stickier buds with more amber trichomes, maybe 30% amber.

Bud structure and branching is ideal for airflow and is mold- and fungus-resistant. I had plants in the same grow that suffered from bud worm, which is common to the locality (had it last year too) but only on the tallest plants at the top of the main cola. These ICE plants were not the tallest in the grow and didn't catch the eye of the white butterfly.

Effect is very nice -- mostly body with a clear head, relaxing. This is true for both plants grown 2018. The clear/milky trichomes are more uplifting, the 30% amber is sedative.

Ice has been a favorite strain for years but unfortunately, I won't be growing it again because of it's susceptibility to powdery mildew. I did an outdoor grow of Ice 7 or 8 years ago, 1 plant that was heavily topped. It became a monster, 6' high and 5' in diameter. The yield from that single plant was 3 pounds. Fortunately, it was a relatively dry summer and I didn't experience any mildew or mild issues. So needless to say I was excited to grow it indoors. At around week 5 I noticed the powdery mildew and with daily treatments of a mist of 1 tablespoon baking soda to a quart of water, I was able to keep the mildew in check and prevent it from infecting too many buds.

The plants were grown in an 8 pot RDWC system using Cultured Solutions nutrients. It was a fairly aggressive feeder, topping out at about 420 ppm (500 scale). A slight mag deficiency was cleared up quickly with a little supplement of epson salts. Humidity was kept below 50% and additional air circulation was employed to help keep the mildew in check.

While the indoor yield wasn't anything like that outdoor plant, it was still very good, considering the plants were vegged to 24" and topped out at about 3 1/2'. Average yield was 5 1/2 ounces per plant, with one plant giving over 8. These were grown from seed and 3 phenos were observed. One was larger with bigger buds, the other had similar buds but slightly smaller. The third pheno had much smaller buds and foxtailed heavily. I had two of this pheno and they only averaged 4 oz. per plant, dragging down the overall average.

With the exception of the mildew, this a great plant with a fine indica smoke.

Germinated end of April 2017 at 47N, harvested September 14/15. Requires some experience. Had one incident with clawing due to excessive N in the soil mix which was resolved by flushing out the soil. Beginning late July, plants were brought indoors at night into light-tight room, which sped up the flowering and ripening process (otherwise harvest would probably have been later).

Aroma: earthy with a hint of licorice and pine. Effect: quite strong with clear head and smooth body high. Medicinal.

Great for evening enjoyment.

Wow!!! This is some of the best stuff I've ever smoked. Makes you feel REALLY happy! Good for depression. Really odd flavor but quite nice. I love this strain. One of my all time favorites. Finished in 8 weeks of flower with rock hard nugs. You will be very happy with this strain. No paranoia either.

My ICE is ready and I wanted to share my first test experience with everyone.

Vegetation: 45 Days (11 Liter Pot) 18/6 Light Cycle

Flowering: 56 Days (25 Liter Pot) 12/12 Light Cycle

Light: 600w

Growth: Branchy with slight stretch (30%) during flowing.

Height: +/- 1.5 Meters

SIGHT:

They call it ICE (Female Seeds) because it’s covered in crystals (just like snow).

There is a very high number of Trichomes per square mm.

The buds are not spectacular in size compared to other varieties.

The yield appears to be less than with some other varieties.

The scissors are sticky from cutting just a small bud to sample.

SMELL:

The smell is strange to me, like gasoline or diesel fuel with just a hint of something sweet and flowery that’s gone rotten underneath it all.

It’s a smell I haven’t experienced previously.

It’s not a pleasant smell – but, it’s an interesting smell.

A smell that intrigues you as your mind tries to decide.

EFFECT:

06:30

Waking up sucks ... It’s cold and I’m tired.

But I’m looking forward to test the ICE (Female Seeds).

A small bud was dried overnight in the food dehydrator.

06:45

The sample seems dry enough ... So I’m going to chop it up.

The scissors are sticky (again).

The buds are still a little fresh (moist).

But dried enough that they’ll smoke.

My first taste in the stone pipe.

There is nothing much to taste.

But I expected this because of the overnight drying.

Experience taught me that you lose taste and flavor.

The expansion test ... Cough, cough, cough. (PASS 〉 GRADE A+)

However, the first experience was disappointing.

But only because it didn’t come on quick like “The Doctor” (Greenhouse).

Likewise, I felt it in the head as a clear high.

Another difference than from “The Doctor” (Greenhouse).

ICE (Female Seeds) starts slowly and builds over-time, just like a tsunami.

07:00

Second taste. Same method of delivery (stone pipe).

The expansion test (again). Cough, cough, cough. (PASS 〉 GRADE A+)

However, there is still no real taste of anything due to the quick drying.

But I’m really feeling it now, almost like a Sativa.

The effect is very uplifting (no need for coffee).

Likewise, it’s very trippy in the head, but clear.

I’m thinking that I can function very effectively on this.

Again, I’m reminded of typical “Sativa” like effects.

I didn’t expect this from a hybrid-cross Indica/Sativa.

Growth and leaves appeared more Indica (almost Afghani).

07:15

The buds are more dried now since I cut them smaller.

So let me roll-a-joint and continue my testing.

Expansion ... Cough, cough, cough with every puff.

I took one-or-two hits and had to put the joint out.

I need a short break, both for my lunges and head.

07:20

Very nice – clear head buzz.

No sign of any body effects.

Definitely 100% in my head.

Feels like my brain is wrapped in a balloon.

I think I have Chinese Eyes, but can’t be certain.

I didn’t look in the mirror – it just feels like I do.

07:45

Time Warp!!

I can’t seem to remember where the time went this morning.

I’ve been up for more than an hour now and I’m still sitting.

My mind was wandering around like a lost child.

So it feels like time passed without me knowing.

ICE seems to make you forget about the time ...

I need to get ready for work.

But before I do - expansion ... Cough, cough, cough (Aaah).

The joint is burning good, but I need another break.

I can’t seem to take more than one-or-two hits.

Then I have to put the joint out for a few minutes.

08:00

Well, I’m dressed now for work.

Another few hits of the joint.

I find myself wandering around the apartment doing diverse housework.

This is unusual, since I don’t cleanup before I go to work in the morning.

ICE (Female Seeds) seems to make you want to dive into whatever work there is to do.

08:30

Another few hits.

The same pattern.

Slow burning joint.

08:40

Another few hits.

There’s no way that I can finish this.

I need to put it out until after work.

Now damn, usually I can smoke a whole joint (pure, not mixed).

Sometimes I can even smoke two before leaving the house.

But not with ICE ... This hasn’t happened in awhile to me.

Time to leave.

09:00

What a pleasant walk to work.

Same thing as before - TIME WARP.

ICE makes your mind active.

My thoughts seem to fly like eagles.

Before you know it, time has passed.

I’m asking myself, how long will this buzz last?

It’s 100% in my head – absolutely zero in my body.

I didn’t expect this level of trippy – head effect.

I was thinking ICE would be more of an Indica Buzz.

Much to my delight and surprise, this is sativa high.

ICE (Female Seeds) grew like an Indica or Afghan.

I’m impressed. Very impressed.

I found a new friend to go with my morning coffee.

10:00

I’ve been working for an hour now.

I wrote these words during this time.

But the hour passed like only minutes.

They should call ICE “Time Warp”.

Because it warps time, just like a gravity.

The way this happens is that it activates your mind.

You become so occupied in whatever thought or task that you are doing that you completely forget about “time”.

You can function on ICE. You can work on ICE. You can be productive on ICE.

ICE is in the head (100%).

The buzz feels clear like a clear glass – goldfish bowl with your brain inside.

The effect actually reminds me of putting glasses on in order to see better.

If you wear glasses, then you’ll know what I mean – everything is clearer and sharper.

That is is exactly the effect (so far).

I feel like an arrow pointed and flying through the wind towards whatever target I seek.

(smile) I’m going to like ICE in the mornings.

I’m not sure if sleep is possible – but it’s morning.

I’ll have to do more experimentation later tonight.

10:10

I’m done writing and I need to work now.

Just coming down a little ... Nice and soft.

Not dizzy – not confused ... just gentle.

It’s still 100% in the head, covering my mind like a warm blanket.

10:25

Coming down nicely. It’ll be lunch time soon.

Hmmm, there are “NO” munchies with ICE.

This is good, I’ve gained too much weight from “The Doctor”.

Peace, love and happiness people.

Best Regards,

SamboFanny
