Jungle Boys Description

Gas Cake is a hybrid cannabis strain descending from Wedding Cake and Octane genetic lines. Developed by one of California's biggest cannabis brands, Gas Cake produces vigorous plants that yield thick buds with pungent fuel aromas and a heavy stone. Keep reading to learn all there is to know about the Gas Cake strain, its effects, aromas, flavours, origins, and more.

History of Gas Cake

Gas Cake was created by Jungle Boys, a well-known Cali collective of cannabis growers and breeders. While Jungle Boys is up there with Cookies in terms of their popularity, the brand has fairly humble beginnings. Its founder, Ivan Vanorwick , has been growing, smoking, and selling weed since his high school days. In fact, his mum used to grow cannabis in their backyard, and Ivan got some exposure to growing weed by helping his mom tend the garden as a kid. However, it wasn't til the early 2000s that Ivan began developing a real passion for the plant.

In 2003, Ivan's father was diagnosed with terminal cancer and his doctor recommended he try cannabis to manage his symptoms and the side effects of his treatment. Without a cannabis prescription, Ivan was able to source cannabis for his dad from Toluca Lake Collective in Los Angeles. Inspired by cannabis' profound effects on his father's quality of life, Ivan began researching cannabis while maintaining a job at Fedex. In 2006, Ivan finally made his move into California's medical cannabis industry by opening Nature's Green Cure, in Santa Fe Springs, Los Angeles, a vertically integrated cannabis dispensary with incorporated grow and hash production facilities.

At his peak, Ivan was serving around 10,000 patients via his Prop 215 medical marijuana dispensary and running a 100-light operation, while simultaneously sharing photos and tips regarding cultivation on cannabis forums, along with other now-renowned growers, including Capulator and OG Raskal. Around 2012, Ivan decided to reduce the size of his grow facility and temporarily close Nature's Green Cure in response to pressure on the medical cannabis industry from state and federal police. In 2013, Ivan became the owner of Toluca Lake Collective (TLC), with which he'd kept close ties with ever since his dad's diagnosis. Soon after, he founded Jungle Boys with fellow growers Juice and Pat.

Today, Jungle Boys is renowned for its massive strain catalogue, which comprises over 500 strains, as well as its unique pheno hunts and state-of-the-art grow facilities and retail stores across California and Florida.

Genetic Lineage of Gas Cake

Gas Cake is a hybrid cannabis strain bred from Hi-Octane and Jungle Cake. Below we'll take a closer look at both of these strains and how their genetics affected those of Gas Cake.

Hi-Octane, also known as High Octane Kush, is a 50/50 hybrid strain bred by Cookies—not to be confused with the 100% indica variety, High Octane OG. Hi-Octane by Cookies combines genetics from Sunset Sherbert and Octane and produces dense nugs with very unique aromas that combine notes of spice, lime, and herbs with earthy, woody undertones, and a strong chem finish. On average, Hi-Octane buds contain around 22% THC and produce a heavy physical stone that's best enjoyed in the evenings when you want to relax.

Gas Cake's second parent, on the other hand, is Jungle Cake—a Seed Junky strain bred from Wedding Cake and White Fire #43 (discovered during one of TLC's renowned White Fire pheno hunts). Besides being a balanced hybrid known to produce dense and frosty flowers, Jungle Cake is particularly famous for its dank aroma (which combines notes of fresh pastry with hints of pepper, toasted nuts, and dank fuel), as well as its high THC levels. Jungle Cake produces intense effects that couple immediate cerebral stimulation with a long-lasting body stone.

Physical Characteristics of Gas Cake

Gas Cake is a hybrid strain that produces luscious plants with bright green foliage and stretchy, thin branches. Its leaves grow very large during veg and the early flowering phase and tend to have thin leaflets, indicative of some sativa genes. Meanwhile, Gas Cake plants tend to develop tightly spaced internodes and stay nice and compact during the veg phase, more indicative of indica varieties.

Once in bloom, Gas Cake plants seem to stretch considerably, and develop a thick canopy of large fan leaves. Come harvest time, Gas Cake's branches grow heavy with dense yet small flowers that retain their luscious, bright green colour, which contrasts nicely with the strain's bright orange pistils and milky coating of resinous trichomes. Some Gas Cake phenos may develop purple hues.

Properties/Effects of Gas Cake

Gas Cake is a strong strain that produces up to 29% THC and a rich mix of terpenes, particularly limonene, caryophyllene, and pinene. The strain's resinous and dense flowers tend to reek with strong aromas of gas and fuel sitting atop unique creamy notes and hints of sweet pastries. Gas Cake's flavour is also somewhat sweet, though dominated by lingering notes of chemical fuel and gas. Some smokers pick up on more subtle vanilla notes, too.

Besides its strong, gassy aromas and flavours, Gas Cake delivers very relaxing effects. Within minutes of inhaling its dense smoke/vapour, Gas Cake soothes the muscle and melts away mental tension, leaving users in a calm and positive daze. Most users recommend reserving this strain for nighttime. Users with a tolerance, on the other hand, may find this strain to be creatively stimulating—ideal for drawing, playing video games, or engaging in other fun, non-physical activities. Still, Gas Cake generally isn't recommended as a daytime or morning strain, though this can vary a lot depending on tolerance.

Uses of Gas Cake

Gas Cake is popular among both recreational smokers and medical cannabis users. Rec smokers and tokers, for example, report using this strain:

• To relax in the evenings

• To soothe the body after a workout

• While watching movies or TV

• While playing video games

• Before dinner or dessert

• As a natural nightcap

MMJ patients, on the other hand, seem to enjoy Gas Cake for its ability to soothe the body physically while melting away mental troubles. Medical cannabis patients recommend using this strain for:

• Stress

• Anxiety

• Depression

• Pain

• Insomnia

• Appetite loss

Like all high-potency cannabis strains, Gas Cake is capable of producing some unwanted side effects. These may include:

• Paranoia

• Anxiety

• Dry mouth/eyes

Cultivation/Production of Gas Cake

Growers lucky enough to secure Gas Cake clones from Jungle Boys (either via their clone drops or from a reseller) will enjoy growing a healthy, vigorous hybrid plant that produces very solid yields.

Gas Cake plants are fairly versatile and easy to grow indoors, outdoors, and in both soil and soilless setups. However, this strain seems to really flourish in hydro. Gas Cake plants can usually be left to veg at their own pace, though some growers like to use training to open up the strain's thick canopy prior to bloom. Based on reports from growers, Gas Cake also seems to lend itself very well to ScrOG setups thanks to its malleable branches and good internodal spacing.

Once in bloom, Gas Cake plants tend to stretch considerably and become notably bushy. Defoliation and pruning during bloom might come in handy to promote light penetration into the strain's thick canopy. As they continue to bloom, Gas Cake plants tend to develop thick flowers that are usually harvest-ready after about 9 weeks. Cool conditions can encourage Gas Cake plants to take on pretty purple hues. Unfortunately, we don't know the exact yield potential of Gas Cake.

Gas Cake - A Jungle Boys Classic

Gas Cake is a Jungle Boys hybrid that descends from Wedding Cake and Octane lines. Boasting a nice balance of indica and sativa genes, this strain is reportedly easy to grow in a variety of setups and delivers dank, gassy flowers with plenty of THC, exotic terpenes, and a heavy-handed, relaxing stone.
