Freakshow (aka Freak Show) is an mostly sativa from Humboldt Seed Company and can be cultivated indoors, outdoors and greenhouse (Where the plants will need a flowering time of ±65 days) Humboldt Seed Company's Freakshow also available as feminized seeds.
As her name suggests, Freakshow ranks as one of the most unusual cannabis strains available. Find out where this weird yet wonderful strain comes from, and what to expect when you grow and smoke her.
Freakshow was brought to life by a grower who, for the sake of anonymity, we know little about, other than his first name: Jordan. While living off-grid in rural California close to Yosemite National Park, this mysterious grower decided to part ways with his standard cultivation practice, which he developed over 40 years, and chose to focus on creating weird and wonderful plants after stumbling across rare mutations during a breeding project. Using four cultivars as a foundation, he eventually wound up creating one of the oddest and most visually striking cannabis strains that currently exists.
Freakshow possesses rare and bizarre morphological features, which have gained the attention of keen growers across the world. Following this widespread interest, Jordan teamed up with Humboldt Seed Company CEO Nathaniel Pennington in order to distribute these seeds to the masses.
Jordan created Freakshow while trying to stabilise a specific terpene profile when crossing the progeny of Big Bud and Skunk #1 with the progeny of Big Sur Holy Bud and Banana Kush. Learn more about this quartet below.
Formed from a three-way cross between Afghani, Northern Lights, and Skunk #1, Big Bud possesses an indica-dominant genetic profile. Birthed in the United States but exiled to the Netherlands in the 1980s during the War on Drugs, Big Bud has formed the foundation of numerous contemporary cultivars. This strain exerts a sleepy effect that kindles the appetite and treats the taste buds to flavors of spice, herbs, wood, and skunk.
Sacred Seed Co. bred the original Skunk #1 while tinkering around with Afghani, Acapulco Gold, and Colombian Gold genetics. The strain’s moderate THC content of 17% produces a subtle yet energetic high, and each hit provides notes of sourness, skunk, and earthiness.
This sativa-dominant creation from Bodhi Seeds offers a unique horticultural experience. Her flowers are accentuated with hues of pink and purple, and emanate complementary tones of blueberry and menthol.
Banana Kush is the progeny of Ghost OG and Skunk Haze. It offers a mellow buzz highlighted by transient bursts of euphoria. A respectable THC content of 22% and plenty of limonene, myrcene, and caryophyllene underpin her effects and dank, fruity flavor.
Freakshow’s title perfectly sums up her odd appearance. As a vastly sativa-dominant hybrid, this strain can exceed 200cm in height and produces a large canopy. However, these traits are often ignored in favor of her mutated and utterly deformed anatomical features. Her foliage would look more at home clinging to the branches of a conifer tree; each leaf emerges as a straight stem abundant with protruding, needle-like leaflets. However, some phenotypes possess more familiar-shaped leaves, only with extreme serration running up and down the edges.
But Freakshow’s flowers steal the show. These large and girthy buds appear as a dense tangle of pine needle-shaped leaves. The pistillate flowers that exist throughout this knotted structure almost look as though they’re trying to burst free into the light.
Freakshow chiefly fulfills the purpose of a novel botanical ornament rather than that of a productive plant. However, with a THC content of 18%, the strain certainly provides a worthwhile effect. Her cannabinoid and terpene profiles synergise to produce a tingly, talkative, and social effect. Eventually, the buzz of this high fades into a mellow and lingering body stone.
Another welcome benefit is Freakshow’s sour grapefruit flavor, which is tangy enough to alert the senses, without overwhelming them.
Freakshow’s buzzing, invigorating effect makes it a great choice for wake-and-baking and daytime use. Bring these buds along on a camping trip to really impress your friends with a stash they’ve never seen before.
No scientific studies have assessed the therapeutic potential of Freakshow. However, anecdotal accounts suggest that cannabis users with the following conditions or symptoms may choose to use Freakshow:
• Depression
• Insomnia
• Muscle spasms
Given its moderate THC content, any side effects produced by Freakshow are generally mild, and include the likes of paranoia and dry mouth/eyes.
Freakshow grows well both indoors and outdoors. She can reach over 200cm when left untrained, but responds well to techniques that limit her size, including LST and topping. Treat this odd-looking cannabis plant just like any other; meet her light, water, and nutrient requirements, and she’ll provide a bounty of mutated colas. Add a dash of mycorrhizal fungi to your soil during transplanting to fortify her root system, and ensure your growing medium features sufficient drainage to avoid anaerobic conditions.
Freakshow offers a unique cannabis cultivation experience. Her foliage and flowers are among the strangest of any strain. But aside from her visual shock factor, this variety also produces a rewarding yield and offers a pleasant and refreshing experience.
