Andhra Pradesh, located in southeastern India between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator, is home to one of the oldest and most widely used cannabis landraces in the country. This region gave rise to the legendary Bhang variety—locally known as “jungli”—which has been traditionally used for centuries in bhang edibles, beverages, and for smoking.
This particular Andhra landrace originates from the Bay of Bengal coastal region, where the climate is distinctly tropical. Conditions are hot, humid, and rainy throughout the year, with intense monsoon rainfall peaking between July, August, and September. Temperatures gradually rise from April onward, ranging between 24°C and 41°C, before the arrival of the monsoon cools the environment to a more moderate 24–32°C range.
Andhra is a vigorous, fast-growing pure sativa with a uniquely expansive growth pattern, developing horizontally as much as it does vertically. This structure makes it especially well suited for outdoor cultivation and greenhouses, although experienced growers can manage it indoors with proper training techniques. Flowering is long and expressive, typically lasting 18–20 weeks, producing moderate yields typical of traditional tropical sativas.
The terpene profile is broad and complex, dominated by floral aromas with sour, hashy, and spicy undertones. The effects are distinctly cerebral, delivering a clear, uplifting head high that can last one hour or more.
Renowned for its toughness, the Andhra landrace shows excellent resistance to heat, humidity, rain, wind, and fungal pressure, making it a reliable choice for warm and tropical climates worldwide.
