Bear Grows Genetics was established by Jarid “Jearbear” Hawkins in 1994. I started growing outdoor organically in 1992 giving him knowledge of gardening before attempting to grow my own in 1994. I got Reclining Buddha from Soma Seeds out of the back of a HighTimes magazine from Amsterdam. In 1997 I bought my first pound of Mexican Brick for $300 from my closest buddy Joe Powless. My friend Jesse Brock sat me down and said what do you see? I answered looks like a brick he said no, look closer do you see the red hairs? Yes! Do you see those shiny crystals? Yes! Do you see that brown plant material? Yes! My friend Jesse had the insight in 1997 to tell me the more crystals the bud has the higher the effect will be. In 2000 my aunt Jeannie Hawkins married Jack Herer that year I got a Northern Lights cut from my friend Wells Turner in Lima NY his dad was a famous musician. This Northern Lights was special very different from the no name, red hairs, commercial, beasters, it had giant 1oz lime green nugs covered in trichomes a sweet skunky terpene profile & when I took a hit this feeling washed over my body from my head through my neck into my shoulders and I could relax for the first time in my life ADHD wasn’t a problem. In 2002 I met my uncle Jack Herer at the Hash Bash in California where I gave him this cultivar and he gave me my first sample of Jack Herer, very uplifting euphoric rotten grapefruit Terps with that classic Jack look and taste. When Jack passed away in 2010 I lost someone very special to me. I moved from NY to Denver Colorado where I was born. In 2012 I went to the very first International HighTimes Cannabis Awards on my way into the Civic Center Park gun shots rang out ending the event. In 2013 The International HighTimes Cannabis Awards would return to Civic Center Park The Vibe was way better with increased security met so many awesome people and got to experience some really good Moon Rocks a Dry Co2 Extract Consistency in 2013 not what the east coast calls a bud dipped in oil rolled in keef. I moved back to NY where I couldn’t find any extracts so in 2015 I bought every hair straightener available in stock at every store in town and a couple clamps I also used a pulley bearing hearing apparatus like stethoscope with a wand. I would turn on the hair straightener and listen until I herd the essential oils start to bubble then turn off the heat and apply pressure at an even pace until I couldn’t squeeze harder my Hichor Hand dynamometer tested grip strength is 1,300 PSI great for this method but not all clamps are created equal kept blowing apart so use caution. In 2016 I bought my first 20ton press with Dab Press’s DIY anodized 20ton rated 3x5 plates and multiple press bags starting with flower rosin. I met Frenchy Cannoli in 2017 at his Hashishin Work Shop he taught me how I make wine and he collects grapes taking me under his wing teaching me a lot of what I know today. He said Each Trichome head is like a grape he collects those grapes the same as me but he preserves those grapes/heads in there most natural form where I add heat and a lot of pressure essentially juicing the heads/grapes into a wine then I utilize post processing methodologies to creat a desired consistency, Frenchy may use a glass bottle with boiling hot water in it being careful not to burn himself he would roll the bottle over heads/grapes in a thick clear cellophane to protect the heads/grapes from contacting the bottle ruining the extract! In 2021 James Loud bred Jearbear Auto=Skywalker OG x Jerry Bear & named it after me “Jearbear” and sent me 6,000 Seeds to give away at my 1st event BearRoots Festival I also picked 7 people to do a grow off with free Jearbear Seeds called The Magnificent 7 Grow Off. In 2022 I became the east coast representative for a very busy lab @longbeachoriginal710_ on Instagram out of LongBeach California Where quality meets the streets! Taste Of Hash was my 2nd event. In 2023 I had my 3rd and largest event @newyorkrosincompetition where I wanted to give back to the community so we didn’t charge admission, No fee judges kits, No fee to Compete, We covered all costs except for the All Access VIP Experience Swag Bags, Booths, and Passes. The awards and Dab Bar were sponsored by JP & Wendy Toro they went above and beyond the call of duty. I also discovered the Roadkill Skunk Phenotype in 2023 and repeated it in 2024 & Now in 2025 DNA Genetics Don & Aaron have agreed to collaborate with me on Kosher Kush Resurrection and Crosses along with  releasing February 1st 2025 at Darkstar Genetics Seedbank and Sleestack Resurrection and Crosses on April 19th at Kush Stock and Darkstar Genetics Seedbank. I also started a Podcast called The Journey where I interview the best growers, breeders, & extractors in the Emerald Triangle to bring awareness and education to the world. Also we reached epic numbers on the HashTag I created in 2000 #LetsGrowTogether 3,300,000 people on Facebook can’t be wrong! Or 544,000 on Instagram. It means nobody gets left behind!
