Descripción de Souvenir Seed Company

Rubber City Lineage Information from Pip……

Some new information has come to light regarding the “Sensi Star” clone I used to make Rubber City. If you didn’t know, Rubber City was part of the very first release of Souvenir Seed Co. It was originally listed as Sour Diesel x Sensi Star. I first got the “Sensi Star” plant around 2015 or 2016. I knew it was older weed just by looking at it. The smell and taste was also very familiar, and I knew I had smoked it long ago in my past. I couldn’t recall the strain name, but I could remember where I was at when I got it. A local quarry that hosts festivals called Nelson Ledges. However, in the years after I received the cut, I have come across my same “Sensi Star” cut labeled as numerous different things, from a handful of completely unrelated sources, at different points in time. Most of them call it Death Star, some people have called it Sensi Star, and one person more recently who called it “Four Way”. The way I know that they were all the same plant, is because I have grown it for a long time now. Also, it has a unique leaf fade on the tops when it’s slightly underfed, not well lit, or stressed in some way while in veg.

A short time back, a good acquaintance of mine (well connected locally) heard that I was looking for an old Ohio Four Way clone, and he put me in touch with an older friend of his who lived somewhat nearby. When I show up I see he is much older than I am, and seemingly has a small isolated circle (at least these days). Pretty cool dude. He proceeds to show me the couple plants in his basement nook, and then the jar of flower, and I can’t help but think that it sure looks familiar. He told me that he has been growing this plant since the late 90’s, and that a friend of his bought the Four Way seeds that it came from, and selected this plant. When I asked him which seed company they were from he initially told me Sensi Seeds, but he wasn’t positive.. He gave me some cuts of it, and I gave him several different strains to try. After taking it home and growing it my way, It is as obvious as the morning sun that this plant is the same plant as my “Sensi Star” yet again. I contacted him again to see if I could get more details. He was eventually able to get a hold of his buddy who was the guy who bought them, and was told that they were from Nirvana.

From there I continue to research Four Way more in depth, and start finding and seeing similarities. Some Rubber City progeny did look somewhat similar to the Sensi Seeds stock photo of Four Way, and even more similar to some of the Nirvana Four Way grows that I have come across on the forums. One thread in particular that stood out goes by the name of Stretchpuppy on icmag. His pictures are very similar to the plant I have, and what I have seen in the Rubber City progeny that lean toward my cut. He even notes some had mutations, which I have also seen occasionally. If I had to take an educated guess, I would say that Nirvana Four Way was most likely a continuation of Sensi seeds Four Way. This is what some Dutch companies did back in the 90’s. Grow each other’s popular work, make a new generation, and sell it under the same name, maybe even change the lineage to whatever sounded interesting so they could claim it as original. Seemingly very brazen. Sensi seeds especially was knocked off, and copied by everybody in those days.

I do truly believe now that my Sensi Star is a Four Way cut that has been around Ohio for a long time. Between what I was told by the guy who has had it for over 2 decades, my own comparisons and research, and opinions from local people who grew/smoked the cut, I am confident. The story adds up, the pictures add up, the hashy, spicy, dank, old world, skunky, aroma adds up. It was very frustrating/confusing, yet interesting for years as I would get this same cut from different people, labeled as different things. I called it what I originally received it as (Sensi Star) until I felt that I had enough information to prove otherwise. Now I feel that I do.

I try my best to do my due diligence when I receive new genetics. Some are easy to dismiss as fakes or mislabels, and some are not. Some sit in limbo for years until I can figure out the truth. First hand experience helps a lot, and I’ve seen truckloads of different plants in my time, but still not all of them. I call plants by the name they were given to me as, until enough evidence convinces me to do otherwise, and now is that time. I take my passion seriously, and I owe it to my supporters to be as diligent and upfront as I can when it comes to the legitimacy of my genetics. I went through a lot of plants, a lot of years, and a lot of time trying to get to the bottom of this one, and I’m glad I have gotten this far. If any new information comes into play, I will keep everyone posted on my Instagram accounts. For the record, as of 2023, Rubber City lineage will now be labeled “Sour Diesel x Four Way”.

About Four Way….

Four Way lineage as labeled by Sensi Seeds is Indian x Afghanistan x Pakistan x Skunk 1. I am not certain of the exact arrangement, and I am not sure exactly which year they came out with this lineage description. This information does not exist in any Sensi Seeds catalogs from the 1990’s, but it is what is listed currently on their website today. Four Way makes its first appearance in the 1991 Sensi Seeds catalog, the very first issue. I wish there was a bunch of info that I could provide as far as the back stories, and provenance of its multicultural lineage, but I honestly have not been able to find much clarification on this. Before I share the possibilities, I have to educate you a bit. Sensi Seeds was started by the purchase of The Seed Bank from Nevil Shoenmakers around 1990. Nevil was under pressure from Operation Green Merchant and was eventually arrested in 1991, bonded, and on the run. Most of what Sensi Seeds produced came from his seeds, and his clones. When Nevil was running The Seed Bank in the 80’s he did have an Indian strain from Kerala. He also had his highly regarded personally collected Afghani. And also Afghani No.1 that he got from Sacred Seeds stock. I’m not sure of all the plants/seeds that were handed over to Sensi during the acquisition, but Afghani No.1 was definitely one of them.

Also there is another theory. In 1987 The Seed Bank issued an update form with new varieties, and descriptions of things to come. Nevil mentions that a new 4-way hybrid of Big Bud/NL1 x Skunk 1/Early Pearl will be available soon. The next year’s catalog (1988) indeed had a new 4-way cross listed in it under the name “Four and More”. I believe it was only ever offered for that year from The Seed Bank. It does not exist in the 89′ and 90′ catalogs. Then in 1991 Sensi Seeds was started, and they offered a strain called Four Way. The description that they used is the almost word for word, the same exact description that Nevil had used for his Four and More. I have tried to contact Ben from Sensi Seeds with questions about this, but no response yet.

Sensi Seeds also “re- launched” Four Way in 1995 for additional refinement. I am not sure what exactly was done.
Nirvana Seeds was started in 1995 by Mau. He previously worked for Positronics. The seedfinder lineage for Nirvana Four Way is listed as Indica x Ruderalis x Northern Lights x Skunk 1. I am unsure which year they released this line. The ruderalis part throws me off because I have never witnessed anything autoflowering or even semi auto in my original Rubber City line. Like I mentioned above, Nirvana more than likely was using Sensi Seeds Four Way. I can’t prove this, but it definitely wouldn’t have been the first time they continued another company’s line.
