Tema: Thank You SeedFinder: More Than Two Decades of Preserving Cannabis Genetics

For over 20 years, the team behind Seedfinder has provided one of the most valuable resources available to cannabis growers, breeders, collectors, and researchers worldwide.

Long before social media groups, Discord channels, and modern cannabis databases became popular, SeedFinder was already cataloguing cannabis genetics, breeder information, strain histories, and family trees. For many of us, it became the starting point of a lifelong journey into cannabis genetics.

My own relationship with SeedFinder goes back many years. As a grower fascinated by landrace varieties and heirloom genetics, the platform provided an invaluable way to research strains, trace genetic lineages, and understand where cultivars originated. Whether I was investigating old-school varieties, studying breeding projects, or comparing phenotypes, SeedFinder was often the first stop.

One of my earliest experiences involved growing genetics from Afropips. Like many growers interested in African cannabis genetics, I wanted to understand the origins, crosses, and breeding work behind these unique cultivars. SeedFinder made it possible to explore the genetic background of these plants and discover related varieties from breeders around the world.

Over the years, the database became even more important. During lockdown periods, when access to events, expos, and networking opportunities became limited, SeedFinder remained a reliable resource for researching genetic lines and discovering new breeding projects. It helped connect growers with breeders and opened doors to conversations that may never have happened otherwise.

For those of us still working with landrace and traditional genetics, SeedFinder continues to play a critical role. The preservation of cannabis biodiversity depends on accurate information, historical records, and community contributions. Many rare lines, regional varieties, and breeding projects can be traced through the platform's extensive database, helping ensure that important genetic heritage is not lost.

As the cannabis industry continues to evolve, commercialize, and consolidate, the value of independent genetic archives becomes even more apparent. Future generations of cannabis growers and breeders will benefit from the work that has been done over the past two decades.

So from one passionate cannabis genetics enthusiast to another: thank you to the SeedFinder team for your dedication, your patience, and your commitment to preserving cannabis history. Your work has helped countless growers research strains, connect with breeders, understand genetic lineages, and keep the rich diversity of cannabis alive.

Here's to the next twenty years of cannabis genetics, preservation, and discovery. 🌱I am now looking into hemp farming here in South Africa, I know seedfinder will be my first port of call.
