Tema: New website

Johann Anderson started Seedfinder more than 15 years ago.

It had been a long journey. In 2009 all listed breeder were fitting still  to one page, now we have listed more than 34000 strains from more than 1800 breeder, while the amount is growing rapidly.
This new website release, beside some issues with translations, may still contain some bugs. If you find one, please report them via the contact form. If you have proposals what could be improved or you want to share your opinion, please answer this thread.

New website is great! old lineage section looked bit cleaner than this new one IMO. Dark theme would be cool too!

I enjoy the overall look of the new design, however the lineage tree that was under the strain information from before was so logical and straight forward. The new one feels a bit bloated, especially on mobile device.

Any possibility to just have it as a regular table instead of some sort of interactive jscript type deal?

Either way, thanks for all you have done for the community by creating this website and database! Keep it up

Hey, the new site is easier for newbies but lost a ton of information from old site, for sure we need a archive of all information from old site, to be sure and secured that not a piece of information will be lost forever. Its a very important to secure this precious database, in the same form as it be in the past, new site aesthetic is one thing but the new site has lost a tons of information and this can't be accepted. Please make a archive and be still a heroes of cannabis world. The new site is more new user friendly, but its a huge loss for old users to lost so much information, and it starts to look like others less valuable databases like Leafly or Askgrowers or Weedmaps, don't destroy the old database cause it is the most valuable data pack in cannabis history of internet, bring it back. Please.

The new website design isn’t as efficient to view or navigate on my mobile phone screen.  I prefer the old design but can appreciate it’s a work in progress.

Bring back the old database, for example the RFK Skunk on old website has over 12 000 related descendants and on the new site it has 13.

The new update is absolutely terrible. Please change it back. I've used this website as a resource for 10+ years and now the site is practically unusable.

Very nice design indeed, great effort !
But I'm really missing the "Hybrids & Crossbreeds" full list web page that was available to see all descendants of a strain.
And maybe a dark mode switch ?

Hybrids & Crossbreeds

There are only 10 strains availble.

We found 188 direct descendants from *** in the seedfinder strain database, here a short overview. To see all hybrids and their descendants, visit our *** and check out all the direct crosses as like as the following generations.

It s not available.

Firstly, great website, I've been lurking on the old website for a good few years what I absolutely loved and was easy to navigate. I've been using your website for a bunch of research on strains so looking forward to working on the new website & see how it compares to the old website.

Pumped to hear SeedFinder has a team of people working improve and grow this fantastic resource, one which I frequently use when researching strain genetics.

A couple of notes, as a user and fan of your work:

  • Your old branding and design language was retro and fun. New logo/design feels a bit generic "tech". Maybe re-consider colors and fonts? Old logo was much cooler too IMO
  • Careful with your ad placements. Currently when trying to learn more about a strain I get 3 MASSIVE full width ad bars, each easily taking up over 50% of the screen. Tastefully positioned ads will be more effective in the long-run than plastering them everywhere, especially given the importance of user engagement with search engines.
  • I LOVE the interactive genealogy chart, have wished for this for so long and am happy to see it in the wild. I particularly love being able to click into any strain within the flow to learn more!
  • I think the organization of the key elements on each template could use a little more thought. The subheadings, positions, and colors all kind of blend together, making it harder to quickly find the information I'm looking for as a user.
  • Lastly, I hope you have a couple of good technical SEO folks helping to ensure no valuable URLs are lost.  Seedfinder.eu has been low-key one of the best cannabis resources on the web and preserving all of that equity (in the form of both content and links) should be of utmost importance.
  • Personally would love to see an active SeedFinder blog. You've got such a great resource here and undoubtedly quite a bit of internal expertise you could lean on to produce some fascinating content around strains, genetics, and the direction of the global cannabis market.

Again, I'm a huge fan and frequent user of your site and will continue to do so. The above critiques are intended to be positively constructive. I'm also sure this redesign process is far from "complete". So with that, I wish you all the best!

I've been suggested this site by a very close friend of mine, he had been using it for decades before me and he loved it and i was amazed by it. Unfortunately both, my friend and the old SF, are no longer with us anymore and even if i preferred the old look and features of the original, i'm positive the admins and moderators will work very hard to bring it back to it's original glory, just like i'm gonna work hard to become a real grower like my old pal.

I really miss you man but I'll light one up for you once in a while.

Peace

I find the new design incredibly awkward. Not easy to navigate. New strains haven't been updated for days. I'm not against change, it is just not so user friendly now.

the new design feels bloated and not easy to scan / view.

the old design was quick and better to read.

the listings and search function were clear and simple. now it feels like "overpolished" and therefore less usable.

also the "trending" arrows in the new search listing are missing + some informations in strain sections are gone....

Hello, I wasn't sure it was the same site. I see the redesign, but where is the database?

The function of the site was to research genealogy and lineage of strains. Where would one find this data now?

Suggested improvements:

- Make the genealogy tree configurable, e. g. allow the user to change how many levels are displayed. The old view was nice because it showed _everything_, but it quickly becomes too much with the new view

- Add the breeder to the search field. Right now, I can search for "afghani" and scroll through a long list of results to find Afghani #1 by Sensi Seeds. I wish I could search for "afghani sensi" and find the right entry right away.

- The Wizard has been removed, but it would be nice to have some way of finding interesting strains that match certain criteria, e. g. stretch, flowering time or aroma.

- A lot of data is no longer displayed on the website. It would be nice to at least show the ratings, so I can see what's popular and use that to sort long lists.

- I notice lots of wonky errors on the site, e. g. at the top of the page for T. H. Seeds it reads "... with an average rating from _11.23_ out of 10!"

- The German translations are messed up in a lot of places. Missing spaces, wrong capitalisation, random phrases are not or only partially translated, missing words, etc.

- Ad banners are sometimes huge and take up the entire screen.
